Otto Hlonschek journal of American travels, 1893.

Hlonschek accompanied Baron von Ringhoffer, head of an Austrian company that manufactured railway cars, on a company trip to America. Their goal was the Chicago World's Fair; on the way they visited various cities, usually connected to railways, including New York, Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia. The journal is written in German and bound in leather. Laid in are two newspaper clippings about the trip. Also includes two specially prepared maps annotated with their journey, one of the Atlantic crossing, the other of their American travels (two copies); a sailing chart; a handwritten two-page ledger of expenses incurred by the author; a cabinet photograph of the ship Lahn; and a note from the Baron to Hlonschek.
